Introduction

THE SCHOOL OF FINE ART AT THE GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART HAS AN INCREDIBLY RICH HERITAGE, PRODUCING SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PRACTITIONERS OF THE LAST CENTURY AND A GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF GRADUATES THAT CONTINUE TO LEAD THE WAY ACROSS THE WHOLE SPECTRUM OF FINE ART PRACTICE TODAY.

THE POSITION OF THE HEAD OF SCHOOL OF FINE ART IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO INSPIRE AND INNOVATE, TO WORK TOGETHER WITH STAFF AND STUDENTS TO INTERROGATE SOME OF THE MAIN QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTEMPORARY FINE ART PRACTICE AND TO DEVELOP THE SCHOOL’S LEADING ROLE ACROSS CONTEMPORARY FINE ART LEARNING, TEACHING AND RESEARCH.

THE HEAD OF THE SCHOOL OF FINE ART WILL NOT ONLY PLAY THIS PIVOTAL ROLE IN FORMULATING THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOL OF FINE ART BUT ALSO OF THE WIDER GSA. THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE IN OUR WIDER ACADEMIC AND CREATIVE LEADERSHIP AT A CRITICAL POINT AS WE DELIVER OUR NEW STRATEGIC DIRECTION.

The unique qualities of being within a small, focused school of art also mean opportunities to work collaboratively not just with colleagues across the GSA, but also with our academic and cultural partners in the city, and with our National, European and international partners.

The city at our heart, Glasgow, is an important cultural and creative hub, one of only five Creative Capitals in the UK and ranked one of the leading in Europe, that today attracts creative talent of the very highest calibre by reputation and by the promise of becoming part of its renowned creative and cultural community.

We are looking for applicants that are passionate about learning and teaching, research and external networks; tenacious; ambitious; imaginative; and are great communicators, interested in hearing what their community of practitioners wants to do next and working with staff and students across the School to make that happen.
